Wildlife

We endeavour to take unique photos of wildlife, although we enjoy going after the classic photos. Wildlife photography is one of the most difficult forms of photography, as it is the only area in photography where you don't have any control over any of the elements in photography. You have to anticipate and through experience increase the odds of taking a good photo. Wildlife photography is a truly frustrating, but rewarding area of photography.

In the following gallery you will find some African fish-eagles, various other birds, an elusive Roan antelope and an Impala photo converted into a bushman painting.

There is another fish-eagle, a lion, more birds, Roan antelope and a rather special moment where a butterfly flew towards this isolated plant in the bush. I nearly missed the moment, as I concentrated on taking photos of a Peregrine Falcon hunting a Combed duck, seen elsewhere in the Wildlife photography galleries.

This gallery has art conversions of photos I took and has some birds, a lion, a stunning giraffe (which should be viewed in the pdf, as the picture on screen doesn't do it justice) and two juvenile elephants playing in a lake in the Kruger National Park.

These wildlife photos are not converted into art, although I have used some photos shown in my wildlife photography galleries to make artwork from photos. I have not chosen my best, but rather showcase my favorite shots. Each photo shown in the following wildlife galleries has a story attached and has huge sentimental value. If someone has interest in purchasing wildlife photos from Orasa designs they should contact us to find out whether we have something available not seen on the galleries. Keep in mind we can convert nearly any photo into a work of art should that be preferred.

In this gallery you will find my favorite subject in birds, especially the smaller species, you will also see a photo of a crocodile (trying to make a meal of me), a view in False bay (not wildlife but a beautiful landscape photo), some elephants and a unique sequence of a African fish-eagle hunting a Yellow-billed Stork. The Fish eagle didn't manage to take out the stork, because an over exuberant juvenile Peregrine Falcon interfered in the hunt, which spoiled the African fish-eagle's chances.

The ever present birds features in this gallery again with buffalo, hippo, and a fisherman combing the lagoon for sea life to eat (not wildlife, I know, but what is unnatural about a man foraging for food in a lagoon) and one of my favorite photos ever. This juvenile elephant slipped in the mud while walking out of the lake in the Kruger National Park, when the elephant regained its feet, it cast around in anger looking for something to vent its anger and embarrassment on. It finally spotted the Goliath Heron and chased it away. The self satisfied strut by the young male elephant made my trip and I felt privileged to be there to witness it.

I always find it fascinating when driving around a natural environment. On one trip I must have encountered about 8 species of animals foraging in elephant dung. They were looking for seeds and insects, which calls elephant dung home, but then my day was made when I captured a young baboon seriously looking for goodies in a huge pile of elephant dung. Other photos seen in this gallery features elephants, various birds, a hyena pup warming up in the morning sun and a Peregrine Falcon practicing its hunting on a female Comb Duck. I witnessed about 50 failed practice runs but was astonished when he joined the African fish-eagle in its hunt of a Yellow-billed Stork, as seen in the first gallery.

Found in this gallery is birds, a butterfly, buffalo, the Peregrine falcon practicing some more and some photos of a Garden Orb-web spider, these spiders spin great big webs between shrubs and trees and are said to be the strongest webs of all, even capable of ensnaring small birds, apparently. These spiders are absolutely benign and even I am not scared of them. Interestingly these great Goliaths of the arachnid family host small spiders, called Dew Drop spiders on their webs. These spiders are kleptoparasites. They steal the food caught by the Orb-web spider and are probably named for looking like drops of dew when the light catches them at the right angle, as they have almost a metallic look to them.
